Redesigned for the 2006 year, the Chevrolet Impala SS gives a fight to itself as to whether it is the better family vehicle or the performance sedan we all love.

After firing up the 5.3L V8 that has been placed on GM's front-drive W-body platform, the driver can't help being impressed by the numbers this sedan can lay down. The V8 pushes out 303hp/323ft.lb and knocks out a quarter mile in 14.2 seconds at over 100mph! A 4-speed automatic transmission aids in getting this black beauty down the road. The SS chassis were granted with their own special anti-roll bars, bushings, and shock and spring rates yet cruising feels compliant and is not jarring like some sport sedans.

The exterior is finished in GM's Black that shows almost like new. The SS-trim received subtle SS badges and 18-inch five-spoke wheels that really add to the ground effect. Dual exhaust outback let the 5.3L's note carry.

The interior is nicely optioned as we would expect from a family sedan. Unique gauges sit in front of the driver with a red underglow. Inside, the rumble is kept to a dull roar by some well-placed insulation and a fire wall made of Quiet Steel that reduces unwanted noise. A Black-leather interior with heated, power front seats and a sunroof to allow the cabin to feel more open. An AM/FM/CD/Aux head unit gives variety to the tunes selected to come through the speakers.
